Clinical hypnosis or hypnotherapy must be practiced by a trained licensed mental health practitioner. The required training beyond that needed for mental health licensure involves practice and supervision in both theory and technique and requires continual updating to maintain certification by the National Board of Clinical Hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is the use of the principles of hypnosis to assist you to change unhealthy patterns of behavior.  The basis of hypnotic suggestion is the reality that your mind is capable of carrying out the changes you want to make in your life.  You may believe you are powerless to change long standing behavior patterns.  This belief prevents you from making the changes you are capable of.  You may be internally conflicted regarding your emotional attachment to unhealthy patterns.  For example, you want to stop smoking, but you also don’t want to stop.

Dr. Barone, as a compassionate, experienced hypnotherapist works with you as a unique individual to harness the positive ability you possess to make changes in your life. At the same time, she will train you in techniques to let go of the negative beliefs that keep you feeling stuck in your life. Dr. Barone uses the principles of Milton H.  Erickson, considered the founder of modern day clinical hypnosis.

The power of suggestion is the underlying principle of hypnosis.  Suggestions delivered at the right time, in the right form, for you as an individual, using the motivating forces that are uniquely your own, is one difference between “stage” hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy differs from  “stage” hypnosis in another crucial aspect.   Your personal emotional reactions to your life experiences can cause you to resist changing, even when you want to change.  Dr. Barone’s intuitive and practical approach will teach you to use your experiences to make the behavioral and emotional transitions you desire.
